Dr. Saliya Pathirana

Dr. Pathirana is widely considered the pre eminent eye surgeon in Sri Lanka and was involved in the Golden Key Eye and ENT hospital from the conceptual stage. He is a member of the board of directors in addition to being the chief consultant eye surgeon.

After a distinguished academic career in the Colombo faculty of medicine Dr. Pathirana obtained his post graduate qualifications in both Sri Lanka and England. Following his appointment as consultant eye surgeon at the National Eye hospital Colombo, he played a major role in modernizing the hospital and in teaching post graduate students. The number of his students doing yeoman service as eye surgeons around the country bear testimony to this. He introduced vitreo retinal surgery to both the state and private health sectors and still is one of the handful of surgeons performing such surgery in Sri Lanka.

After joining the private sector in 2005, Dr. Pathirana has pioneered the philosophy of providing world class eye surgery at affordable cost to the patients. As a result thousands of patients from all over the country have had cataract and more complicated eye surgery under his care with results rivaling the best centers in the world.

The services of Dr. Saliya Pathirana in the field of ophthalmic surgery received international recognition when he was elected the chairman of the SAARC Opthalmological society for the year 2006 – 2007. He is currently the Vice President of SAARC Academy of Ophthalmologists (SAO). He is also the Regional Secretary of the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmologists (APAO). In addition to this he is a member of American Academy of Ophthalmologists (AAO).
 
Dr. Saumya Paranavithana

Resident Consultant Eye Surgeon
In keeping with the new concept of medical consultants opting to join the private sector on a full time basis Dr. Paranavithana joined Golden Key Eye and ENT hospital at its inception soon after being board certified as a Consultant Eye Surgeon.

After undergoing her undergraduate training in Sri Lanka she completed her post graduate training both in Sri Lanka and UK. After completion of her post graduate training and being board certified by the PGIM Sri Lanka she was appointed as a Consultant Eye Surgeon by the Ministry of Health Sri Lanka before she joined Golden Key Eye and ENT hospital .

In this era of super specialization Dr. Paranavithana has developed a special interest in orthoptics (squint correction) and the diagnosis and treatment of paediatric eye disorders. She is in charge of special clinics dealing with these problems in addition to practicing general ophthalmology at the hospital.


 
Dr. Dilruwani Aryasinghe

Resident Consultant Eye Surgeon
Dr Aryasingha, another young highly qualified ophthalmologist joined the Golden Key hospital immediately after board certification as a consultant eye surgeon.

After her brilliant undergraduate career with first classes, distinctions and four gold medals at the Colombo medical faculty, she completed her post graduate training at Eye hospital Colombo by earning the gold medal for best performance in MD Ophthalmology. She is the only ophthalmologist in Sri Lanka who has done the post graduate training at specialist registrar level in UK. She has obtained her training at world renowned ophthalmology centres like Tennent institute of Ophthalmology, Glasgow, Moorfields Eye hospital London and Radcliffe infirmary Oxford. She trained in the field of glaucoma and anterior segment surgery. With her exceptional surgical skills she has performed more than a thousand glaucoma surgeries. After obtaining her FRCS in UK she joined the faculty of medicine Colombo as a senior lecturer.

Dr. Aryasingha has a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma and will be in charge of the glaucoma clinic in addition to other ophthalmology work. She also performs anterior segment surgery including corneal grafts.

 
 
Dr. Amila De Alwis

Resident consultant eye surgeon
Dr. De Alwis is the latest addition to the list of resident Eye surgeons at the hospital. A graduate of the Army medical college in Pakistan he completed his post graduate studies In Sri Lanka before going for further studies in United Kingdom, Canada and Singapore.

He joins Golden key hospital right after being board certified as a consultant in Sri Lanka.

Dr. Amila brings a cosmopolitan and community oriented attitude to eye surgery and he is dedicated to increasing the general awareness among the population about eye conditions and their prevention and treatment.

His special interests are in the fields of anterior segment surgery and pediatric ophthalmology. He aims to pursue these interests as well as his community service programs along with his clinical practice at the hospital.
 
 
Dr. Sobitha Abeyaratne
MBBS, MS, FRCS( Edin )
Resident ENT Surgeon
Dr. Abeyaratne is one of the brightest prospects in the field of ENT surgery in Sri Lanka. He joined Golden Key Hospital in the capacity of consultant ENT surgeon in the hope of opening up new frontiers in this field in Sri Lanka.

After completing his undergraduate studies at the Colombo Medical faculty, Dr. Abeyaratne did his post graduate studies in both Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom. Upon being board certified he was appointed as the consultant ENT surgeon to Hambanthota. He leaves the state health sector after making an immense contribution to the development of his specialty in the district of Hambanthota.

Dr.Abeyaratne prefers to list his specialty as otorhinology and head and neck surgery and is actively involved in pushing the boundaries of the field traditionally known as ENT surgery by performing a large number of head and neck surgeries with excellent results in both the state and the private sectors.

He is also a gifted Rhinologist. He has done a large number of endoscopic sinus surgeries for Chronic rhino sinusitis and nasal polyposis. Combining his skills with the Eye surgeons together this team has done a large series of Endoscopic DCR surgeries for patients with blocked tear ducts.

Rhinoplasty surgery as well as Septoplasty surgeries are some of the other routine surgeries done by Dr.Abeyaratne.

Last but least the cochlear programme initiated and conducted solely by Dr. Sobitha has been a resounding success and can be considered to be one of the fasted growing programmes in the region.
